How to Choose a Studio

How to Choose a Studio

Styles, schedules, and six questions to ask before you roll out your mat.

Every studio in the Atlas has its own temperature, tempo, and tribe. The trick is matching yours.

Match the style to your goal. Want to sweat? Vinyasa and hot rooms. Want to soften? Yin and restorative. Want precision? Hatha and Ashtanga.

Check the schedule, not the website. A beautiful studio with no class at 7pm is useless if you finish work at six.

Six questions to ask: Can I drop in? Is my first class discounted? Are props included? How big are the classes? What is the teacher's background? What is the vibe — chatty or quiet?

Most studios offer a first-class pass. Use ours: try one class in two different neighborhoods and see which one you think about on the walk home.

Your First Week of Yoga

Guide

Your First Week of Yoga

Which class, which studio, what to bring — a gentle route in.

Starting yoga can feel like walking into a room where everyone knows the password. Here is the honest version: nobody cares if you wobble.

Day one: try a gentle hatha or beginner vinyasa on a weekday morning — rooms are quieter and teachers have more time to adjust you.

What to bring: comfortable clothes, water, and an open mind. Mats, blocks, and straps are provided at almost every studio in this guide.

What to expect: your first class will be slower than you think. Breath work, a few standing poses, and a savasana that feels like a small vacation.
